Breathing Test for Diaphragm Engagement

Our breathing pattern has huge roll to play in our ability to utilise our core whilst dancing. Try this simple self-assessment to see what your normal breathing pattern in!

  • What You'll Need:
  • ~ Phone set up (quite close!) for recording


~ Lie down with feet flat to floor / knees up, and plac eone hand on your belly (just below ribs) and the other hand on your chest

~ Try to breath fully, but normally!

~ Close your eyes and feel for movement; does your belly expand? Which hand do you feel is moving more or first?

~ Watch back recording and mark down your findings using the checklist below.
